For the purposes of these terms and conditions, the term "Gift Card" means an American Airlines virtual or physical gift card, a US Airways gift card, or an America West gift card.
By purchasing or redeeming a Gift Card, you agree to the following terms and conditions.
Gift Cards are available for purchase in any denomination between $50 and $1,500 USD on giftcards.aa.com or by calling 800-677-9555 Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm (CST).
Gift Cards can be delivered electronically (as a virtual Gift Card) or shipped via FedEx (as a physical Gift Card).
Gift Cards are non-refundable.
Virtual Gift Cards are available for immediate delivery but will not be activated until 72 hours after purchase. Physical Gift Cards will be activated and delivered within 4-5 business days in most cases. Physical Gift Cards are subject to additional shipping fees. Check giftcards.aa.com for shipping rates. A Gift Card has no value until it is activated.
Gift Cards that are undeliverable or not received due to inaccurate information provided by the purchaser will not be replaced or refunded. Cards cannot be delivered to P.O. Boxes or addresses outside the U.S. and U.S. Territories.
The risk of loss and title for Gift Cards pass to the purchaser upon transmission of the Gift Card to the purchaser or designated recipient, or delivery to any intermediary, including but not limited to retail stores and couriers, whichever is applicable.
Gift Cards purchased or bartered from sources other than American Airlines-authorized vendors (Unauthorized Vendors
) are not valid or redeemable.
Gift Cards are redeemable toward the initial electronic ticket purchase of air travel for itineraries sold and originating in the U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands. Gift Cards are redeemable to purchase the base airfare and directly associated taxes, fees and charges collected as part of the fare calculation. Gift Cards may not be used for other products or services (including upgrades, Admirals Club membership or day passes, in-flight purchases or enhanced seat products) or for any additional fees (including baggage fees, pet fees, unaccompanied minor fees, ticketing fees for transactions processed through reservations, or any taxes, fees or charges payable with AAdvantage® award travel or American Airlines Vacations℠). Gift Cards may be used only for travel on flights marketed by American Airlines, including those operated by American Eagle®, oneworld® airlines, and by other codeshare partners with an American Airlines flight number. Gift Cards are redeemable only online at aa.com or by calling reservations at 800-433-7300. An additional ticketing charge may apply to reservations made over the phone and must be paid separately with a valid credit or debit card. To redeem a Gift Card online or by phone, you must have access to the Gift Card number and pin provided on the Gift Card or by email if Virtual.
If the ticket price is greater than the value of the Gift Card(s), the difference may be paid with a traditional credit or debit card, with a billing address in the U.S., Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands. If the ticket price is less than the value of the Gift Card(s), then the unused portion will remain on the Gift Card until the balance of the Gift Card is decreased to zero, at which time the Gift Card will be deactivated.
If a ticket is purchased with a Gift Card but travel is not taken, the value of the ticket (after any fees or penalties) will be provided pursuant to American Airlines' policy regarding ticket refunds (available at https://www.aa.com/i18n/customer-service/support/conditions-of-carriage.jsp).
Up to eight Gift Cards may be redeemed in a single transaction or purchase.
Gift Cards are issued by American Airlines. Gift Cards do not expire or lose their value.
Gift Cards have no monthly or maintenance fees and cannot be reloaded with additional funds after the initial purchase.
Gift Cards are not credit, debit or charge cards and have no implied warranties. To the full extent permissible by law, American Airlines makes no warranties, express or implied, with respect to Gift Cards, including without limitation, any express or implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
American Airlines is not obligated to replace lost, stolen or damaged Gift Cards. If American Airlines, in its sole discretion, issues a replacement card, a $25 replacement card fee may apply.

American Airlines will not honor a Gift Card purchased from an Unauthorized Vendor. Gift Cards may not be resold by any individual or any Unauthorized Vendor. Unlawful resale or attempted resale is grounds for seizure and cancellation without compensation. Please contact American Airlines at GiftCards@aa.com to validate American Airlines-authorized vendors before purchase, or if you have any questions regarding an American Airlines-authorized vendor.
You may check your Gift Card's balance at aa.com/giftcards, by emailing GiftCards@aa.com or by calling 800-677-9555.
American Airlines reserves the right, and holder or purchaser of a Gift Card agrees that, American Airlines may at any time change the terms and conditions of the Gift Card program or contract with a third party to administer the Gift Card program. The most current terms and conditions are available at giftcards.aa.com/terms.jsp and will supersede all previous versions of the terms and conditions. The most current terms and conditions shall be effective upon posting of such modified terms and conditions. Your use of the Gift Card after such posting constitutes your acceptance of the modified terms and conditions.
American Airlines reserves the right to place restrictions relating to use of the Gift Cards, including combining Gift Cards with certain discounts and other forms of payment such as Flight Credits, Trip Credits or Flight Discounts.
Unless prohibited by law, American Airlines reserves the right to refuse, deactivate, cancel, reject or hold for review any Gift Card (a) if the card number is invalid, has not been activated, or cannot be found within the American Airlines system or (b) mistakenly issued in an incorrect denomination or (c) suspected to have been issued or procured, directly or indirectly, in connection with fraudulent actions or in violation of these terms and conditions. A Gift Card will not be redeemed or exchanged for cash, check, or credit except where required by federal or applicable state law. You are responsible for safeguarding your Gift Card from unauthorized use.
Use of American Airlines' name, logo, trade dress (including any image or likeness of the cards) or trademarks (or those of any of its subsidiaries or affiliates) in connection with the purchase or use of Gift Cards is strictly prohibited. The use of Gift Cards in any manner that states or implies that any person, website, business, product or service is endorsed or sponsored by, or otherwise affiliated with, American Airlines or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates is prohibited. Furthermore, the use of American Airlines' name, logo, trade dress or trademarks by any third party to resell gift cards is strictly prohibited.
The laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflicts of law provisions, apply to these terms and conditions and use of any Gift Card. If any of these terms are deemed invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, that unenforceable term will be deemed severable and will not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining terms and conditions.
